When William Ashmund Prestridge was born on November 5, 1839, in Sumter, Alabama, United States of America, his father, Benjamin Bagley Prestridge, was 22 years old and his mother, Mary Ann Ezell, was 18 years old. He married Victoria C. Mills on October 5, 1865, in Choctaw, Alabama, United States of America. They had at least 2 children. William was a Confederate soldier assigned to the 3rd Alabama Cavalry. The 3rd Cavalry Regiment was formed at Tupelo, Mississippi in June 1862. It was composed of independent companies that had seen previous service, some had fought at Shiloh. These companies were from Monroe, Choctaw, Wilcox, Mobile, Perry, Dallas, Calhoun and Autauga counties. He enlisted on September 25, 1861, at Mount Sterling, Alabama. He was present at all of his regiment's actions, including Shiloh, Murfreesboro, Chickamauga, Atlanta Campaign, and Bentonville, and was paroled in Charlotte, North Carolina, in May 1865. As recounted in the book "Soldier Rests" written by Judith Mac Knight Jones, it is said that he arrived in Brazil on the ship Talisman. The family entered Porto de Santos on 01/24/1867 by steamer Santa Maria.

In the book "Soldier Rests" there is also the report that William "was a tall man with a thin body, he had a lot of intelligence and culture. Like so many others like him, he wasted his talent walking all day behind the plow, to support the family ." "His pride of him was the long white beard he so cultivated..."
William A. Prestridge: Private, Co. A, 3rd Alabama Cavalry.

William Mitchell Mills married Dora Thatcher. The couple had twelve children. They lived on a large farm in the city of Nova Odessa - Sao Paulo and were known as the Tiguerão. The site area comprised approximately 85 (eighty-five) football fields. With Dora's death, half the farm was divided between the twelve children and the other half stayed with William. As time went by, parts of the site were undermined until there was nothing left in the name of William, nor of his children.

Dora Thatcher born in Ohio arrived in Brazil with her parents and siblings. The Thacher family lived in the city of Iguape until mid-1869, as on 08/22/1869, they landed again in the port of Rio de Janeiro, coming from Iguape and Cananéa, in the company of Rev. J. Wood Dunn and family. f  On 10/09/1869 the Thatcher family arrives at the port of Santos for the São Paulo steam and went to the city of Santa Barbara d'Oeste where they lived with the American Colony. As reported in the book "Soldier Rests" written by Judith Mac Knight Jones, Dorah Thatcher started with William Mills and had twelve (12) children. The name of all the sons of William and Dorah can be consulted in the book "Soldier Rest" by Judith Mac Knight Jones. Dora died in 1917 at the age of 62 at the site in Nova Odessa leaving the following living children: Cornelia at the age of 42; Bertha at the age of 38; 37 -year -old Emma, 32 -year -old Dunn; Derwood at 30; Prestridge at 29; Rhoda at 27; Jose 25 years old, James Jones at the age of 23 and Regnault at the age of 22.  (Loosely translated from Portuguese)
