Josephine’s mother, Sara White, died in Brazil around 1873 and Josephine White’s father remarried, and had at least four more children. ————
1900 U. S. Censuses for San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas, reveal a challenging year for Josephine Price and her children. First, her second husband George Price apparently died around 1899 - 1900, and a pregnant Josephine Price, age 30, Widowed, is an “Inmate” in a San Antonio, Texas “Rescue Home.” Her youngest child, John Lee Price, was most likely born there. Additionally, two of her children, Bessie Price, age 4, and Roy Atkins, age 10, are “Inmates” in San Antonio’s Protestants Orphan Home. Finally, her fourth child Lucille Atkins, age 7, is listed as an “Adopted Child” in the household of Solomon Lee Nichols, San Antonio, Texas.
However, the 1910 U. S. Census (Floresville, Wilson, Texas) has the family reunited. It lists Josephine Price, age 45, Washerwoman, and her four children, Roy, age 20; Lucile, age 17; Bessie, age 14; and Lee, age 9. It is noted that Bessie and Lee are erroneously listed with the surname of Atkins, an error that is reflected in numerous Ancestry Family Trees.

Census as an Inmate in a San Antonio “Rescue Home.” It is likely that Bessie’s brother, Lee Price, was born in the rescue home.
The 1910 U. S. Census (Floresville, Wilson, Texas) lists Bessie Price, age 14, living with her mother Josephine Price, who was working as a washerwoman. A bother and two half-siblings are also in the household.
The 1920 U. S. Census (San Antonio, Bexar, Texas) lists Bessie Andrews, age 24, living with her husband Luckett Andrews, age 24. Bessie’s mother Josephine Price, age 55, is also living with them. A son, Cecil Andrews, age 5, is also listed.

Evidence suggests that John Lee Price had two wives. The first was Ruth Dromgoole, who he married about 1924. John Price’s 1930 U. S. Census (San Antonio, Bexar, Texas) lists his wife as Ruth Price, age 23, and their son as LeRoy. Jr., age 5. Roy Lee [LeRoy] Price’s Texas Birth Certificate also lists his parents as John Lee Price and Ruth Dromgoole.
John Lee Price’s second wife was Erna Wehmeyer, who he married sometime between 1930 and 1940. John Lee Price’s 1940 U. S. Census (San Antonio, Bexar, Texas) lists his wife as Erna Price, age 36, and also lists his son, Lee Roy Price, age 16. No other children are listed in that Census.
Ruth Dromgoole married John Lee Price around 1921. Their 1930 U. S. Census (San Antonio, Bexar County Texas) shows they had one child, Lee Roy Price, age 5.
Alabama Marriage Records list the marriage of Ruth Price to Brooks Garrett in Nov 1936 in Talladega, Alabama. Ruth’s son Lee Roy Price appears to have stayed with his father John Lee Price. Lee Roy Price is listed on John Lee Price’s 1940 U. S. Census.

Mrs. Seymour Knox dies in Colorado.
Justice of the Peace F. M. Knox on Sunday last received a telegram from his brother-in-law, S. M. Stone, at Ouray, Colorado, announcing the death of the former's daughter-in-law, Mrs. Seymour Knox, at 8 o;clock that morning at her home there.
Mr. Knox received a second telegram Monday stating that the remains would leave out Tuesday morning to be shipped to Whitney for internment. The remains arrived here this morning on the 9:50 train, and were taken to the residence of Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Knox, just north of town. The internment, is now taking place at the DeGraffenreid Cemetery, where the deceased's father is buried, and the funeral ceremonies are in charge of Reverend s. C. Lockett. Mr. Knox surmises that the cause of death was pneumonia, as the last letter he received from his son stated that his wife again had the lagrippe. Mr. and Mrs. Seymour Knox left Hillsboro about four years ago for Ouray where they have since resided, and where Mr. Knox has been employed in a mining camp.
The family is quite well known to our people, having resided in Hill County and near Whitney for a number of years, and there are many friends will receive this news with regret. Mrs. Roberta Knox was about 31 years old and was born in Brazil, she being the daughter of Joe White, who was well known during his residence near Whitney, and who died here several years ago. Shortly after the Civil War, Joe White married and went to Brazil, where his wife died. He later was married again, and with his family moved back to America, locating near Whitney, Texas.
After Mr. White's death, his second wife and her children went back to Brazil, where they now reside. Roberta, the deceased, remained in this country and was married to Seymour Knox, son of Justice and Mrs. F. M. Knox. To them have been born six children who survived as follows: Hubert, Julia, Shelley, Stone, Anna, and Georgia. The oldest being about 13 years old and the youngest about one year old. The deceased was a sister to Tom white, who was well known here and who met an untimely death by being drowned near Port Lavaca, Texas five or six years ago. She has one half sister and three half-brothers now living in Brazil. These Henrique, Wah, Douglass and Miss Belenia White. Deceased, was a first cousin to O. D., Dr. J.W., Richard and Miss Julia Harris of Whitney and vicinityi, and a first cousin of Tom McCown and Mrs. J. E Ewbank of Whitney and Mrs. Joe Harlan of Branchville, Texas.
Obituary.
Seymour Knox, killed by lightning. The Whitney Messenger. May 6h, 1904.
Last Monday afternoon, shortly after 1: o’clock, Seymour Knox, while plowing in the field of his father, Justice of the Peace F. M. Knox, adjoining the city limits of Whitney on the north, was instantly killed by a stroke of lightning. Seymour, with his brothers Frank and Ed, his 14 year old son Hubert, and a young man named Frank McCullouch were working out a piece of corn. Seymour was operating a walking cultivator, and his little son was operating a riding cultivator, about one-half mile from the house. Noticing that the heavy cloud portended rain, Seymour called to one of the hoe hands to come and relieve his little son so his son could go home as he had only recovered from the measles.
He had no more given. This order when without a second warning, the fatal flash came, killing him on the spot without even uttering an outcry. Frank McCullough jumped on one of the horses and frantically rode into town to get Doctor Treat and Greet. Little Hubert ran to his grandmother's to tell her of the terrible fate of her son, while Frank Knox stood vigil by his brother's dead body, having only buried three months ago, the wife of her now dead son with six little children, left orphaned.
Having just two weeks ago had her husband's brother suddenly called away. The bolt of lightning had struck Seymour on top of the head a little to the left, burned its course down his body. There was blood in the left ear, and his hair was burned off.
Seymour's remains were taken to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Whitney at 1 p.m. Wednesday, where a funeral service was conducted. He was buried at the Bethlehem Cemetery. Seymour, In 1871, moved with his parents to Ellis County and remained with them in their different moves, within and without the state, until he was married about 15 years ago To Miss Roberta White near Whitney.
He had farmed most of his life, with the exception of a few years in the livery business at Whitney and Hillsboro, and for the past four years spent in a mining camp at Ouray Colorado. His wife died January 24th and was buried. Her death caused him to leave Ouray and he had to place his six children, three boys and three girls, in the home of his parents and was helping to care for them.

Sailor was lost when vessel was lashed by storm.
Details as to how Paul Putnam, brother in law of Miss
Julia B. Knox of San Angelo, was lost at sea, have been
revealed to his wife by a shipmate. Putnam was last seen alive on November 1, the shipmate said, the repair vessel on which he was serving, being capsized by a storm. Crews searching for five days failed to find him, but hope is still held that his body will be recovered. At the time of the disaster Putnam, aA warrant officer in the United States Navy, was stationed in Iceland. Mrs. Putnam is residing in Norfolk, Virginia, and Miss Knox is visiting her there.
Assitionally:
in 1942, the USS Melville was based in Iceland and served as an escort ship of Allied convoys in the submarine-infested North Atlantic escorting the ships to No Ireland ; it is not known how many passages Paul Putnam made with the ship but surely the exertion of his efforts to keep a 30 yr old ship battle-ready contributed to his death; God Bless him
