Richard William Wiggins
Richard William Wiggins was born in September of 1819 in Sumter County, South Carolina, and relocated to Eutaw County, Alabama around 1930 when his father relocated his family. His father, Stephen Wiggins came to Greene County, Alabama, between 1830 and 1833 when he purchased federal land at the Demopolis land office on 19 August 1833 he paid for 159.81 acres in S-21 T-22N R-1W in Greene County for which patent no. 159 was issued in 1835. In South Carolina Stephen Wiggins served twice during the War of 1812. First, he served as a private in Capt. Hodges' Co., 3rd Regiment (Rutledge's) South Carolina State Troops from June to October of 1812. He served his second term of service in the place of his brother, Sion Wiggins, in Capt.
Bethea's Co., 3rd Regiment (Alston's) South Carolina Militia as private from September 1814 until March 1815. He received a bounty warrant no. 17284 for 160 acres for his service. In South Carolina, he lived in Manchester, Sumter District, South Carolina. He died in Greene county in October of 1862.
Richard joined the Confederate army:
Military Unit
Allen's Co.; Capt. Belser's Co., Reserves; Capt. Bligh's Co., Militia; Capt. Campbell's Co., Militia; Capt. Crawford's Co.; Capt. Darby's Co., Auburn Home Guards, Volunteers; Lt. Echols's Co. of Conscripts; Capt. Fagg's Co., Lowndes Rangers, Volunteers
After the war, along with his neighbors, the William Curtis Emerson family and the Cullen family made the decision to relocate to Brazil, traveling to their new prospective home on April 3rd, 1868. His daughter, Hattie, had married F H Emerson just prior to their sailing south. Things did not work out at all with the relocation and the Wiggins family and Frank H. Emerson returned to the United States with his wife and three daughters and son-in-law. Hattie and Frank Emerson had one daughter born in Brazil - Idellette. Frank left his father and siblings in Brazil. The Wiggins family departed from Rio de Janeiro for Baltimore, Maryland in December of 1873. Richard lost his firstborn son, Wallace, age 19, not long after their arrival in Brazil.
The family returned to Mississippi, USA

Obituary
Douglas M. Chatham, Sr., age 79, of Acworth, GA, passed away Sa-turday, January 6th, 2018. He was born on Nov. 24th, 1938. Doug was the son of the late Bert and Hazel Chatham.
He is survived by his wife Jacquelyn (Jackie) Chatham; his daughter and her husband, Teresa and Chris Mealer; his son and his wife, Doug Jr., and Wanda Chatham; and his grandchildren, two brothers Howard and Dwight Chatham, and two sisters, Beverly Hilbert, and Patricia Willis.
Douglas M. Chatham, Sr., loves to tell of his conversion to Christ in a jail cell in 1957. Only age 18 at the time, he soon received a pardon and entered the ministry.
He served as Director of Graduate Studies at Beulah Heights Univer-sity. He previously served eight years as Chair of Bible and Theology. Prior to coming to Beulah Heights in 1993, he served for 36 years as a pastor, church planter, and missionary. He led over 30 holy land study tours and participated in archaeological digs. He holds the Master of Religious Education degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and the Doctor of Ministry degree from Erskine Theological Seminary.
Dr. Chatham was in the Gospel ministry since 1957. During these 60 years of ministry, He has served as a church planter, pastor, evangelist, missionary, and teacher. He led in planting 8 US churches and 31 churches overseas; directed more than 75 short-term mission teams and over 30 holy land tours; authored 5 books and several study guides. He holds post-graduate degrees from 3 seminaries: Baptist, Pente-costal, Presbyterian. “Dr. C,” as students affectionately called him, served as a full professor in Biblical Studies at Beulah Heights Bible College in Atlanta, He also was a member of the faculty, served as Chair of Bible and Theology, and was the founding director of Missions Overseas Short Term (MOST). Currently, he served on staff at Burnt Hickory Baptist Church in teaching and missions.
With his best friend and partner in the ministry of 58 years, Jackie, they faced many trials and adventures. He would simply say whenever asked to introduce himself in the group, ‘I’m Doug Chatham just passing through on my way to heaven’.

Obituary for Elsie “Dixie” Petty
Elsie “Dixie” Wiggins Petty, 71, peacefully com-
pleted life’s journey in her home in Collierville,
TN on November 8, 2019. Following an extended
illness, she was surrounded by her loving family
and dear friends in her final days. Born in Meri-
dian, MS on September 9, 1948, Dixie earned her
associate degree at Meridian Junior College where
she fell in love with a man named Jim Petty. Dixie
and Jim were married on December 28, 1968,
while attending the University of Southern Mississippi.
After earning her bachelor’s degree from USM, Dixie continued with post-graduate studies at Mississippi State University, Jackson State University, and Oklahoma State University. Dixie began a 33-year education career in Meridian Public Schools where she taught speech and theater. In 1978, she and her husband Jim planted a flag in Carthage, MS where they both raised a family and served the Leake County Public Schools system. Primarily teaching sixth-grade science, Dixie also served in the school’s Title I program.
After retiring in 2005, Dixie expanded her genealogy hobby into full-time research. Between annual seminars at the Institute of Genealogy & Historical Research and regular trips to Sumter County, South Carolina with her sister Lydia, Dixie never exhausted her quest for knowledge. As a product of her research, Dixie was successfully inducted into the Daughters of the American Revolution in 2018. While living in Carthage, Dixie made many lifelong friends through the Carthage United Methodist Church, the Dancing Rabbit Genealogical and Historical Society, the Newton County Historical and Genealogical Society, the Family Research Association of Mississippi, as well as numerous tailgating friends on the practice field of USM’s MM Roberts Stadium. In 2015, Dixie moved to Collierville, TN where she joined the Collierville United Methodist Church as a member of the Agape Sunday School class. Among Dixie’s accomplishments, she was most proud to receive the Meridian Junior College Speech Award in 1968, the NASA Educational Workshops for Elementary School Teachers Honors Teacher Award in 1994, and was recognized as the Leake County Chamber of Commerce Woman of the Year in 2011.
Preceding her in parting is a panoply of ancestors, many of whom Dixie spent a lifetime tracing through genealogy. Surely, at this very moment, Dixie is plotting interviews with those ancestors to fill in the gaps of her research. Among the most immediate family, she is joyously reunited with her husband, James E. Petty; mother, Elsie M. Wiggins, and; father, Richard W. Wiggins III, as well as uncles, aunts, and grandparents that she knew and loved in life. She is survived by her children, Alise (Scott) Davis (Germantown, TN); John (Elizabeth) Petty (Olive Branch, MS); Anne Petty (Jackson, MS), grand-children Lindsey Davis, Caroline Davis, Drew Davis, and Nathaniel Petty; her sister Lydia Medeiros (Columbus, OH), niece Kathryn (Hasan Al Masoodi) Medeiros, and grand-nephew, Abbas Al Masoodi; and her brothers-in-law Richard (Gina) Petty and Ronald Petty (Meridian, MS). Dixie’s interest in genealogy was driven by enthusiasm for a good mystery, a constant curiosity that she pursued in love and faith. This is how we will remember her.
In lieu of flowers, Dixie requested donations to UMCOR, the Heifer Project, Dancing Rabbit Genealogical and Historical Society, or the University of Southern Mississippi.Visitation will be held at 9:30 AM on Tuesday, November 12 with services to follow at CUMC Sanctuary on the Square in Collierville, TN. Dixie will rest next to her husband Jim at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Rose Hill, MS.
